1. Internet project: Using the following website, search and find a French student with whom you can communicate!

  • Introduce yourself (review chap. 1): Where do you go to school? How old are you? What nationality are you? What do you look like? Name two of your personality traits.
  • Use a proper salutation: cher, chère…
  • Explain your daily life (review chap. 2).
  • Tell your favorite foods (chap. 3).
  • Tell what you like to do on the weekend (chap. 4).
  • Tell where you grocery shop (chap. 5).
  • Tell where you like or would like to go on vacation (chap. 6).
  • Of course, you should also pose these questions to the recipient of the email (practicing both ‘est-ce que’ as well as inversion). You can choose to use ‘tu’ or ‘vous’ depending on how formal you want to sound.
  • Use a proper closing salutation (Cordialement, Sincèrement, Amicalement…)

2. Video project: Create a short newscast in French! Consider the following:

  • What is happening? (you will use present tense, as you haven't learned past tense yet!)
  • Who is involved?
  • Where is the event taking place?
  • How long is the event lasting?
  • Why is the event taking place?
  • What other important details can you tell your audience?

Pronunciation

  • How to pronounce the French -g-?

In French, the letter -g- is pronounced like the hard -g- in the word ‘girl’, when followed by the vowels -a, -e, or -u.

  • gant, gorge, naviguer.

It is pronounced as a soft -g- like in -g- in the word ‘gentle’ when it is followed by the vowels -e or -i.

  • gentil, gîte.
