Notice the pattern, compared to the -er verbs you’ve already learned:

3rd person singular > Il ……e Il chante	Il ……d/t
1st person plural > Nous ……ons Nous chantons	Nous ……ons
2nd person plural > Vous ……ez Vous chantez	Vous ……ez
3rd person plural > Ils ……ent Elles chantent	Ils ……ent

As you can see, there are patterns that carry through both conjugations. The major difference is in the 1st person singular (Je) and the 3rd person singular (Il/Elle/On).

Now, take a look at these very common, but irregular -re verbes:

Ils/Elles	écrivent	lisent	disent

Notice the irregular changes in the nous, vous and ils/elles forms of ‘écrire’ and ‘lire’; one of the most common errors is the vous form of ‘dire’ which doesn’t follow the -ez ending, but rather is pronounced ‘deet’.

Reminder: the 3rd person plural (ils/elles) is pronounced: aykriv(écrivent); leez(lisent); deez(disent).
